I'm not sure how to start the LHL plans. How do I begin and what materials do I need?
It is best to start with the FREEBIE week and "Intro to Earth" unit study. The unit studies include printable materials, Montessori lessons to follow, DIY Montessori inspired material instructions, planners for how to present the information each week, and more!
The basic materials needed to START:

If this is a Montessori friendly planner, do I need to have Montessori materials?
You do not have to have Montessori materials to enjoy this program. We have designed all the Montessori inspired lessons around DIY materials and printable designs. However, you can incorporate authentic Montessori materials into the lessons if you wish. We give you the option to do the DIY material or to use the authentic Montessori material.
How does LHL plans work?
We give you a planner for each month with the activities and lessons divided into weekly formats. Then we give you a daily overview and also detailed lessons to follow. We provide all the printable materials you will need for your child to learn. However, we are careful to not give you too many materials to print. Instead, we have made an effort to give you carefully curated high-quality printables for each lesson.
*Please note: You do not have to print ALL these printables or follow ALL the lessons. ONLY print what you will use and review the printables before you print.
How old should a child be to start the LHL plans?
Depending on the child and where they are at developmentally, a child as young as 2.5 years can start the LHL plans. We also provide a Toddler bundle for the 2-3 year olds that comes with each unit study.
I have different-aged children at home. How does this plan work for various ages?
This is a flexible planner that uses the unit study style of learning. For a younger child (toddler), you can slow the pace down and do a lesson every other day or pick only two lessons from the week to do. It is all up to you! For the older child, you can study the same theme and go into more detail with each lesson. We have provided many learning opportunities in this planner for the child aged 3-6 years and also some extension learning for 6-7 years.
And don't worry if you skipped a lesson this year because next year we will repeat and expand on lessons! That is the beauty of unit studies... you can repeat and expand each year as your children grow. Because children learn best with repetition.
When can I access Little Hands Learn unit studies/plans?
As soon as you purchase, you will have full access to Little Hands Learn unit studies/plans. You will need to create an account on the landing page (www.mylittlehandslearn.com) and login. Then you will see the unit studies/plans that you purchased on the platform. No documents (pdfs) will be emailed or physically sent to you.
How long do I have access to Little Hands Learn unit studies/plans?
Lifetime access is available with full payment and available for as long as the Little Hands Learn unit studies/plans are online.

Doesn't the Montessori method encourage you to "follow the child's interests" and how does that work with unit studies?
We like to remind parents that we are to "prepare the environment" for our children to be inspired to learn. This is especially true for the younger ages (infant to 5 years). As the child grows older, they will begin asking questions of discovery. This is a great time to visit the library for books on the topic of interest and dig in! And over time, if you have unit study themes built up, you can grab the materials to help with hands-on learning. Yes! Once you have your unit study supplies built up, you can mix and match materials all through the year. It doesn't have to be in only one order.
How much time will it take to prepare the printable and hands-on materials each week?
Please note that there is approximately two hours of prep time needed every other week. We have put a 'Weekend" materials list preparation guide together for you. Because we have designed DIY materials and printables, it does take time to create these materials. However, you do not have to do all the DIY materials and printables. You can pick and choose what will work for your home and your children's developmental needs.
How do themes or unit studies work?
The beauty of unit studies is that the caregiver can plan and create a prepared environment for the child that embraces hands-on learning. I love unit studies because teaching can be simplified for a younger child or expanded for an older child. There is great flexibility within a themed study for the child to ask questions and explore deeper into a topic of interest… if they so desire. Or basic information can be presented and then all can move on.
Can unit themes be used for multiple ages?
Yes! I like to repeat the main monthly themes each year. When my child was 1-2 years old, we enjoyed these themes by concentrating more on sensory play and simple hands-on toys to match the theme. Then in preschool, more detail was added and then for kindergarten… even more detail was added. So the themes can grow and expand each year as your child develops and grows older.
How do young children learn?
It is normal for a young child to do an activity very quickly and then be ready to move on.. The child’s brain is like a sponge and they are absorbing information rapidly. This is not a time to require memorization or long periods of time concentrating. With LHL, we are INTRODUCING information that is being absorbed and helps them recognize this information later when it is repeated. We are starting to build information pathways in the brain. However, the child will have “sensitive periods” where they will do one activity over and over again that fascinates them. If you see your child engaging this way, do not break their concentration and try to encourage them in their interest. For example, my son was into garbage trucks and pretend play recycling and trash. He would play like this for hours as a 2-4 year old. The main point is... let them play! And let them learn with as much hands- on learning as possible, but never push them at these young ages into learning. Let them learn with play.
Are the unit study plans & printables the same as previous years?
Yes, the same but streamlined and reorganized. The unit study is spread over four weeks instead of two weeks. We will be releasing all twelve unit studies in the new year (2023) and a few will be partially new unit studies! For example, Ocean & Farm to Table unit studies will be partially new.
Why are you repeating the same unit studies from last year?
The unit studies created last year were full of amazing resources, many of which were left untouched, as there was simply not enough time during each month to complete all the fun activities and use all the printables. Some concepts introduced were rather complex and therefore I highly encourage you to revisit these and repeat them with your child. Therefore, my main goal was to streamline what we created last year so that it was organized well and each unit study is now uniform throughout the entire year.
What is the benefit of repeating the unit studies with my child?
It is important to repeat these topics again with our little ones because children learn with repetition. The topics we studied last year were big concepts. So repetition will only help them better retain the information.
Will there be new unit studies released?
Yes! That is the plan. We will release new unit studies as we complete them. We will inform you when we release a new unit study via the FB club, newsletter and on our Instagram and Facebook page.
Is there a certain order to buy the unit studies? Do they build on each other?
So it is best to start with "Intro to Earth" and then "Seasons and Time." Solar System and Mammals can be done before or after Kindness unit. The Kindness unit corresponds with Christmas, as we have our Christmas bundle included with this. However, the three weeks of Kindness unit can be used for any month as it concentrates on manners and Grace & Courtesy. We tried to make the unit studies as interchangeable as possible. However, "Intro to Earth" is the best place to start.
Will anything physical be mailed to me?
No physical items will be shipped to you. The unit studies are an online product with printable PDF downloads.
